Technical Requirements and Instructions

This online, interactive, multimedia-based course is designed to satisfy the 23 hours of training that is required prior to taking the Project Management Institute's CAPM® Certification Exam, but only if you complete all the lessons and engage in all of the activities that are available.

Browser Issues and Technical Requirements

  • This course was built for use with Microsoft® Internet Explorer.  Many of the special visual effects created with CSS files or JavaScript will not be visible with Netscape®, Mozilla Firefox® or AOL® browsers.

  • We strongly recommend that you set your computer monitor's screen resolution to 1024 x 768 to enable you to view all the course features without scrolling.

  • We also recommend that you set your browser to Full Screen (View, Full Screen) to enable you to view the entire page without scrolling.

  • The streaming video is played using Java technology.  Your browser must be set to enable the running of Java and JavaScript and I-Frames, which are normally default conditions with Microsoft Internet Explorer.

  • The Hot Topics feature is a Macromedia Flash application.  You must have Flash installed in your browser to use this feature.

  • The audio files found in the Hot Topics flash cards are MP3 files.  You may experience a delay of a few seconds in their playing if you are using a slower dial-up internet connection.  You should not experience any delay if you have a broadband internet connection.

Course Organization

Each lesson is organized in the same way:

  • An introductory video by the course's author, Rita Mulcahy, who describes the significance of the lesson's subject to the exam-taker, and provides examples and tips on what to focus on to be successful.

  • The interactive tutorial that describes and defines the project management terms and principles of each knowledge area using interactive games, tips and tricks.

  • A scored multiple-choice quiz that checks your understanding of the topics covered in the tutorial.

  • Hot Topics - a timed and audio-narrated deck of flashcards test your ability to quickly respond to the wide range of questions that you can expect to see on the timed exam.

Other Course Features

  • Study Groups is a feature that enables you to read, post and reply to messages to and from other students.  Use it to ask questions of the hundreds of other students who are taking this course while you are or to help others with difficult content areas.  It must not be used to discuss specific questions found on the real CAPM exam, as that would violate PMI rules.

  • Chat is a feature that enables students to conduct online, real-time discussion with other students.  The time and day of the real-time chat must be coordinated with the other student(s), typically through the Study Groups message board.

  • Practice CAPM Exams are available at any time in the course and are accessed via the Lesson drop-down menu at the upper right portion of each lesson page.

Navigation

We highly recommend that the first time through the course that you begin with Lesson 1 and proceed through each subsequent lesson to the end of the course.  Multiple navigation options such as jumping to a particular topic within a lesson or jumping to a lesson out of sequence should only be used after your initial time through the course.

Certificate of Completion

At the end of the last lesson, you will be asked to complete an end-of-course survey.  If you have purchased the Full Registration, completion and submission of the survey indicates to us that you have successfully completed all elements of the CAPM online course at least one (1) time.  If you have purchased the Refresher Registration, completion and submission of the survey indicates that you have spent a minimum of twelve (12) hours reviewing the online course material.  Students who complete the course under a Full Registration will receive 23 Contact Hours, while students who review the course materials under a Refresher Registration will receive 12 Contact Hours.
